The Auriga Butterflyfish, also known as the Threadfin Butterflyfish, is one of the most well-known and easily available butterflyfish. It is typically a hardy species in the wild, it can be found on the outer and inner reef slopes. Like other fish, the Threadfin butterfly's coloring and markings will differ depending on the region of its origin. Red Sea specimens tend to lose their eyespot (false eye that confuses predators) on the dorsal fin. It is believed that the Auriga Butterflyfish is quite shy and requires several hiding spots. This is not safe reef fish. It is best kept in a live rock only tank, though it can attack the rock.   The diet of this saltwater fish should comprise of meaty food items such as fish, crustaceans mysis shrimp, frozen marine products.
